Plot x252 Portia Wimpory Hale (1866-1867)

Portia was the second child of eleven born to Frederick Hale and his second wife Mary (née Hammond). Frederick was a draper who was born in Holborn, London but who moved to Berkhamsted by 1851.

Portia (her second name was her paternal grandmother’s maiden name) was born 30 July1866 but died 14 July1867, the loss made even more tragic as her elder sister Mary had died eight days previously.

Her parents lost their first four children, all daughters, under the age of three.

Happily four sons and three daughters survived infancy, although one child, Lucy Rosa, died aged nine.

Her father and his first wife Eliza lie in plot 116
