Ralph was born in 1873 in Chesham, the oldest son and third child of Edward and Mary Ann Potter. His father was a plumber and painter with his own business. The family had moved to Berkhamsted by at least 1876 and in 1881 were living in the High Street.
By 1891 the Potters were living in Kitsbury Road and seventeen year old Ralph was a painter, probably working with his father.
In 1896 he married Hannah Riddle in Berkhamsted. Arthur Philip was born in 1897 followed by Norman Ralph in 1901. In 1901 they lived at 19, Kitsbury Road. Ralph was a house decorator and paper hanger and they also had a boarder, an assistant school master.
Grace Mary was born in 1905 and in 1911 they were all living at 52, Kitsbury Road. Ralph was a house decorator with his own business and an employer
Ruth E was born in 1915. The 1921 census recorded all four offspring at home at 512, Kitsbury Road and that Arthur and Norman were working with their father as painters.
Hannah died in August 1921, just two months after the census was taken. She is buried in plot 700 in this cemetery.
In 1922 Ralph married Rosa Hawkins. Rosa, who died in January 1938 is buried here with Ralph.
