Plot 902 Reuben William Trantor Moore (1852-1939)
Reuben was born in 1852 in Great Missenden, Bucks, to William and Patience (née Aldridge) Moore. His father was a sawyer and his mother a lace maker. By the time his sister Jane was born in 1857 the family had moved to Berkhamsted.
In 1871 Reuben was a labourer lodging at Marsh Farm, Wood Lane, Little Stanmore, Middlesex.
He married Emma Gudgin in Berkhamsted in 1874. They had three children: Annie (1874), William George (always known as George) (1877) and Ellen (1880). They lived in the High Street and in 1881 Reuben was a timber labourer. His widowed mother-in-law and three lodgers lived with them.
Emma died in November 1881 and is buried in this cemetery.
On 3 August 1885 Reuben married again in the parish church of South Stanmore, Middlesex, to Alice King, the daughter of a hay binder. He is described as a sawyer on the marriage certificate.
They moved back to Berkhamsted where Arthur (1887), Harry (1888) and Alice (1890) were born.
In 1891the family was living at 8, Park Street which saw the births of Ada (1892), Charles (1894), Daisy Doris (1895), Alfred R (1899) Mabel (1903) and Edith (1906).
In 1911 they were living at 5, Station Road. Reuben was a bricklayer’s labourer.
Daisy Doris died in 1912, aged 17, and is buried in Plot 537 with her mother.
In 1921 Reuben was a builder’s labourer working for H&J Matthews. Edith was at home, as was 12 year old Arthur Lewis Price, “adopted son.” (b 1908 Berkhamsted). He had been listed as “visitor” in the 1911 census. (Arthur joined the Navy in 1924 and was killed at sea on HMS Grenade in 1940).
Alice died 11 January 1936 at 5, Station Road aged 73. She is buried in Plot 537
Reuben died in March 1939 at 11, Kitsbury Road aged 87.
His brother George (1854-1859) is also buried in this cemetery.
