Ronald Archibald Bandy

Ronald was born 14th September 1883 in Milton Bryan, Bedfordshire and registered as Ronald Archie. He was the son of Jonas and Lenora Bandy and his father was employed as a cowman.

In 1901 Ronald was  living in Milton Bryan with his parents and working as agricultural labourer.

In 1910 he married Emily Ursula Pocock and the 1911 census shows the young couple living in Milton Bryan with their six month old son Jonas. Ronald was working as a “park labourer” – probably in nearby Woburn Park.

The 1918 Absent Voters register for Mid Bedfordshire shows that Ronald Archibald Bandy of the “Red Lion” Milton Bryan was in the Royal Army Medical Corps. It is not clear whether he had been the licensee of the pub or whether the family was lodging there and no further information about his army service has been found.

By the 1921 census the little family was living in Swing Gate Lane, Berkhamsted and Ronald was working for a Mr Gilbert, a builder, as a general labourer.

The 1949 Register found them still at 4, Swing Gate Lane. Ronald was employed as a “general gardener” and Emily as a cook.

Ronald died in 1946.
