Sophia was born 16 September 1833 in Germany to Edward Taylor Mister, a British subject.
She married widower John Duncan Campbell Wallace 29 March 1865 in Bengal. He had been born in India of British parents.
Mary Charlotte was born and died April 1868 in India.
John retired back to England with the rank of Major General. He died 25 July 1877, at which time they were living in Beaumont Street, Oxford. He left about £61,000 in 2025 value. Sophia was listed in the British India Office Army & Navy Pensions Madras Military Fund registers of pensioners
At the time of the 1881 census Sophia was living 32, Hatherley Grove in the household of her step-daughter Mrs Emily Keir, the wife of an army surgeon, with Emily’s two young children and a domestic servant. She is described as “Officer’s widow”.
Sophia died 21 December 1894 at “Oakvale”, Berkhamsted, aged 61. She left £94 10s 11d (Just over £10,660 in 2025)
