Sarah was born 3 August 1880 in Northchurch, the daughter of Catherine (née Sidwell) and Joseph Bedford. Her father was an agricultural labourer and her mother a straw plaiter. She was their first daughter and had three older brothers. Sarah was baptised 10 July that year in St Mary’s.
By 1891 she had two more brothers and the family was living in the High Street, Northchurch. Her father was a general labourer, two of her brothers were agricultural labourers and one was a smith’s labourer.
Ten years later the family were living in Bell Lane, Northchurch. Joseph had gone back to agricultural work, along with one of his sons. Another was a general labourer and Sarah was employed at the mantle factory in Lower King’s Road.
In August 1912 Sarah married William Arthur Ginger, a blacksmith, in Berkhamsted.
In 1921 they lived at 7, Norris’s Terrace, Gossoms End. Sarah was a dressmaker at the mantle manufactory in Lower King’s Road and William a blacksmith/engineer for Cooper’s.
William died 15 March 1937 at 4 Gossoms End, leaving £670, just under £38,000 today. Sarah remained at that address and in 1939 had two young women living with her, perhaps lodgers.
Sarah died in 1962 and was buried here with William.
