Susana Jones
Sacred to the memory of John JONES who departed this life 12 November 1854 aged 73 years. Susana JONES who departed this life 21 November 1873 aged 81 years
Susana JONES Susana was born in Iver, Bucks in about 1791. Her name is spelt differently on different records so can be Susana, Susan and Susanna.
She married John JONES, a carpenter from Wales. By 1813 the couple set up home in Little Gaddesden. They had ten children born between 1813 and 1835.
By 1851, when she was 60, the couple were living at Prospect Place in Berkhamsted and John was retired. Living with them was 16-year-old Richard, born in Berkhamsted in 1835 and described as their son. So they had clearly moved from Little Gaddesden to Berkhamsted by the time she was 44.
John died three years later so by 1861 she was widowed and was living in Pightle, next to Highfield House, along with a 12-year-old granddaughter Emily J JONES, born in Little Gaddesden. Presumably Emily was the daughter of William, one of her three children born in Little Gaddesden.
In that same year Richard, a carpenter like his father, was living in the High Street with his wife, Matilda and two daughters Emily (aged 3) and Kate (aged 1)
Ten years later Susan was still living in Highfield Road, this time with Richard’s daughter Emily JONES, aged 13. It seemed that Susana never lived alone. She died a couple of years later, aged 81, on 21st November 1873.
