Plot 1162 Susanna Knight (nee Simmons) (1877-1952)

Susannah  was born 25 February 1877 in Aldenham, Herts, to Maria (née Hobbs) and Thomas Simmons. Her father farmed 142 acres in the village. Susannah was the sixth of their seven daughters.

By 1901 her father had retired and was living at 43, High Street, Bushey with Maria and three of their daughters, including Susannah, who was employed as a dressmaker.

She married Wilfred Lempriere Knight on 22 July 1903 in Bushey. Wilfred, an electrical engineer, was a widower with three children, living in Aberystwyth.

The couple returned to Aberystwyth where their two children, Gwendolyn Susanna (1905) and Thomas Wilfred (1906) were born.

In 1911 they were living at “Belle Vista”, Queensway, Gerrards Cross and Susannah was using her skills as a dressmaker.

By 1939 the family was at 37, Meadow Road. Wilfred was still working and Gwendoline (a shorthand typist) and Thomas (a electrical and mechanical engineer) lived at home.

Wilfred died in 1945. Susannah survived him until 23 August 1952 and is buried with him here.
