Susannah was born 1865/6, the daughter of George and Sarah (née Hurst) Dean. George was a carpenter, born in St Neots. Sarah had been born in Berkhamsted and was a straw plaiter. She had previously been married to Robert Dennett and was George Dean’s second wife.

In 1871 the family were living in Victoria Road and consisted of two of Sarah’s three children by George Dennett; George’s two sons and a daughter from his first marriage and Sarah and George’s three sons and daughter Susannah.

By 1881 they had moved to Castle Street and Susannah, her mother and one of her step-sisters were working as dressmakers. Her mother died in 1882. By 1891 George had moved to Ellesmere Road with step-daughter Mary Ann Dennett, Susannah and sons Frank, Arthur and Alfred. No occupation is given for either young woman.

Her father died in 1894 and in 1901, aged 36, Susannah was working as cook in the household of Henry Pratt and his daughters in Hemel Hempstead.

In 1921 Susannah was employed as a general domestic servant by the Richards family in Littlehampton.

At some point she returned to Berkhamsted and died at 56, Castle Street, aged 65, in 1931. She was buried 4 May 1931.
