Biography:
Thomas Dealey
07/07/1882 –1940

Unmarked grave Thomas Dealey (1882-1940)

Thomas was born 7 July 1882 to Samuel and Jane (née Delderfield) Dealey. He was baptised 21 December.

His father died before 1883 by which time his mother had apparently remarried to a Mr Mariott and given birth to Emily Marriott. The marriage cannot be traced and although Jane is shown as Marriott, and married, in the census returns for 1891and 1901 there is no sign of her husband, although her daughter Rose Marriott was born in 1893.

In 1901 Jane, Thomas, Emily and Rose plus widowed agricultural labourer Thomas Delderfield, Jane’s brother, and his three young children, were living at Newells Yard, Ellesmere Road, Northchurch. Thomas was employed as a coal carter.

In 1911 Jane is shown as widowed and living at 7, Canal Side with Thomas, a general labourer, Rose, a general servant and Daisy Marriott, aged 3, whose relationship is not shown, but is possibly Rose’s child. Arthur and William Delderfield, Jane’s young nephews, were also living with them.

In 1919 Thomas married Sarah Cook and in 1921 they were living at 40, Highfield Road. Thomas was employed by A Coles of Luton as a general labourer. The couple do not appear to have had any children.

Sarah died in October 1935 and is buried here.

In the 1939 Register Thomas is recorded as being a wood machinist (heavy work). Also living in the house was Lilian Pepper, aged 20. Their relationship is not stated.

Thomas died November 1940 aged 58 at Highfield Road and was buried 20 November with Sarah.
