Thomas was born in 1877 in Berkhamsted to Thomas Margrave and Eliza Butterfield. He was joined by sisters Matilda born in 1880 and Edith Laura born in 1883 as well as a brother Albert George born in 1882. Sadly both Edith and Albert died as infants. His sister Matilda emigrated to Canada and died there in 1882.
He married Elizabeth Susannah Doughty on 1st October 1875 in Aysham, Norfolk. They had two sons: Thomas Eric born 24th November 1901 and Albert who only lived a year.
In 1911 he was occupied as an engineer, turner and fitter and was living with his wife and son at 28 Victoria Road, Berkhamsted.
He served in WWII in France and Belgium, he was a Fitter Staff Sergeant in Royal Field Artillery Company W0 329 and was awarded the 1914-1915 Star. He was killed in action on 28th December 1917 and is buried in Boezinge, Arrondissement leper, West Flanders (West Vlaanderen) Belgium.
