THOMAS MATTHEWS Thomas was the second child born to Harriet Mathews, the wife of builder James Mathews. Thomas was born during the second quarter of 1850 in Berkhamsted and was baptised in St Peter's Church on 12th May that year. Thomas' mother died early in 1851. The census for March 30 that year shows James with the baby Thomas and Thomas' older sister Emma living in Castle Street. James' unmarried sister Ann had moved in to act as housekeeper. Thomas  died a few yeras later in 1856 at the age of 6 years . He is buried with his mother.
