Gladys was the second daughter of George Church, a gardener born in Thaxted, Essex, and his wife Alice (née Sterne), born in Berkhamsted. George was a domestic gardener and the family lived at 3, St John’s Well Lane.
Gladys was born in 1900 in Kentish Town, although her older sister, Kathleen, had been born in Berkhamsted.
She died in September 1902 aged only 2.
