Walter was born 14 June 1874 in Aylesbury to William and Mary Ann (née Oakley) Rickard. In 1881 the family lived at 5, Hale Street and his father was a “storekeeper”.
By 1901 Walter had become a hairdresser and was living with his widowed father and five of his siblings at 17, Park Street, Aylesbury.
He married Minnie Whitley in 1902 in Berkhamsted where Nancy Mary (1904) and Arthur William (1907) were born.
From at least 1911-21 the family resided at 164, High Street. Living with them was niece Gertrude Hanlen, “hairdresser’s assistant”.
Minnie died in 1929 after a long illness and is buried in this cemetery.
In 1936 Walter married widow Ethel Mary Hardman in Berkhamsted.
The 1939 Register records the couple at “Hardrick”, Shootersway. He was described as a “Private hairdresser” and Special Constable.
Walter died in August 1941 aged 67. Mary survived him until 1955.
