Unmarked grave Wilfred Russell Greenstreet (1914-1947)
Wilfred was born in Notting Hill, London, in 1914 to Mildred Russell (née Hodgson) and Charles Leonard Greenstreet. His father was a chartered accountant.
In June 1921 Wilfred and his younger brother Stanley were living with their parents at “Stoneycroft”, Berkhamsted. Also in the household was a mother’s help and a domestic servant with her own young daughter.
The London Gazette of 2 August 1940 includes his name in a list of cadets from Officer Training units appointed 2nd Lieutenants in the Royal Artillery.
Wilfred married Isobel Mary Kinoch at Woodside Congregational Church, Aberdeen 24th February 1945. By then he was a Lieutenant in the Herts & Beds Regiment.
He died 21 February 1947 at 8, Bury Avenue, Hayes, Middlesex. At the time he was employed as an assistant surveyor to Messrs. Wright & Co. of Hillingdon.
Various Greenstreet relatives are buried in this cemetery, including his grandparents Octavius and Annie, and his parents continued to live in the town, which doubtless accounts for his burial here.
