William Burgess

William was born in 1865 in Flamstead to George and Charlotte Burgess. His father was a straw cutter, his mother a straw plaiter.
He married Emma May in 1890.
Lily was born in 1891 followed by Alfred (1898), Ethel (1900) and Nellie Ellen Elsie (1901). In 1901 the family lived at 6, The Wilderness, Berkhamsted. William was a carter at Lane’s Nurseries. Living with them was his mother-in-law, Emma May.
By 1911 William was a general labourer.
In 1921 he was shown in the census as married, but was alone at 6, The Wilderness. He was employed as a nurseryman by Lane & Sons
William died in April 1930, aged 69, in the Berkhamsted Union workhouse.
