Note - although documents record William's last name as "Gomm," ,it has been recorded in the cemetery burial books as "Goom"

William was born in Berkhamsted 11 February 1876, the son of Nathan Gomm, a wood turner born in Chesham, and Maria. Maria (née Grover) had been married to Edwin Sills and when she, Nathan and William were living in George Street in 1881 her two children by that marriage, Thomas and Mary, were with them.

William became a wood worker like his father and in 1900 married Lydia Ada Elliott in Berkhamsted. Their daughter Doris was born that year.

In 1901 they were living in Thompsons Row and William was a sawyer.

By 1911 they had moved to 228, Waterside, Chesham where William was a sawyer in a toy factory and they remained in the town until at least 1939.

William died in Hillingdon, London, in 1968 aged 92.
