Plot 1162 Wilfred Lempriere Knight (1869-1945)

Wilfred was born 14 May 1869 in Brighton to William L & Eliza Ann (née Glaskin) Knight. His father was a master Venetian blind manufacturer.

In 1871 family living at 13, St George’s Road, Brighton. Wilfred had a baby sister and a nursemaid was living-in. By the time of the 1881 census three more girls and a boy had been born.

Wilfred became a “manufacturing electrician” and married Daisy Windsor, the daughter of a Bushey bootmaker, in 1890, at St Giles, London. The next year they were living in Peckham but they had moved to Aberystwyth by 1897 when Eustace Albert Lempriere was born, followed by John Clarence Raymond (1899) and Florence E (1900).

Leslie was born in 1901 when the family was living at Quebec Villa, Issayndre, Aberystwyth.  Sadly Leslie died the next year, as did Daisy, who passed away in August 1902.

Wilfred married again to Susanna Simmons in 1903 in Bushey. They remained in Aberystwyth at Harrowgate House, Llanbadarn Road, where their two children were born: Gwendolyn Susanna (1905) and Thomas Wilfred (1906).

By 1911 they had moved to “Bella Vista”, Queensway, Gerrards Cross. Wilfred was described in the census as “Electrician (bells, lights and telephone).”

By 1929 Wilfred, Susannah, Gwendoline and Thomas has moved to 50, Shrublands Avenue, Berkhamsted.

The 1939 Register records the family at 37, Meadow Road, Berkhamsted. Wilfred was still working, Gwendoline was a shorthand typist and Thomas an electrical and mechanical engineer.

Wilfred died 11 August 1945. Susannah survived him until 1952 and is buried with him here.
