William Waller
1816 –1849

William Waller 1816-1849

 

William Waller was born in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, in 1816 to Robert Waller, aged 41 and Lydia Waller née Crickmore, aged 33. William's parents married on 18th December 1797 at Old Church Saint Pancras, London. William was baptised in Kings Langley on 12th May 1816.

William's father was born in 1775 in Kings Langley, Herts, and died in 1837. His mother Lydia was born in 1778 at Watford, Herts, and died in Berkhamsted in 1840. Probate dated 12th February 1841.

William was 1 of 5 siblings: Thomas Waller, born in 1805, Edward Cumberland Waller in 1809, Henry Waller in 1811 and John Waller in 1814.

According to the 1841 census, William, aged 25, lived in Berkhamsted High Street and worked as a plumber. He married Martha Mary Manton on the 24th May 1842 in Berkhamsted. During this time, William became a licensed victualler at The George Inn, Northchurch, Herts. This Public House is now known as 'The George and Dragon'.

William and Martha had 4 children during their marriage. Frederick Waller was born in 1843 and sadly passed the very same year. By 1845, Elizabeth Almeria Waller was born but passed as a young woman of 22 in 1867. The 3rd child Ellen Waller was born in 1847 but sadly survived for only 1 year. Robert Waller was the 4th and final child born to William Waller, arriving 23rd January 1849 in Berkhamsted, Herts. He was baptised on 18th February 1849 in Great Berkhamsted.

William died as a young father in October 1849 in Berkhamsted, Herts, aged 33, less than a year after the birth of his son. St Peter's Church registry entry notes his burial date as 26th December 1849.

Robert went on to work as a carpenter aged 22. By age 24, Robert married Harriet Tarbox on 14th April 1873, in Northchurch, Herts. They had 8 children together.

According to the census of 1901, Robert was living as a widow. The 1911 census confirmed that he married for the 2nd time to Lucy and had 1 son. He died on 3rd January 1929 in his hometown, aged 79.
