Maximilian Nickolas Moraine was born in Russia/Poland (possibly France) in 1864 to Nickolas Moraine. He had a brother, William. In 1891 Maximilian was living in St Pancras, London and is described as a clerk. He married Amy Maud Ratcliffe in Bournemouth 8th November 1894. His profession is described on their marriage certificate as a commercial traveller.
Maximilian and Amy lived with his Amy’s family in Berkhamsted although he seems to have kept an address in London from where he conducted his business as a merchant and foreign correspondent. He and Amy did not have children. Maximilian died at 69 Fulham Road Chelsea on 19th February 1932 and he was buried with his wife, who had died in 1917, in Rectory Lane Cemetery. He was 68 years old .
Amy Maud Moraine, née Ratford, was born in July 1863 in Poplar, London to Isaac Sherwood and Lucy Ellen Ratford née Hasell. In 1881 Amy was attending boarding school in Grays, Thurrock, Essex. She married Maximilian Nickolas Moraine in 1894 when she was 32 and she and Maximilian lived with her parents at Bankside, 35 High Street, Berkhamsted. Maximilian, a general merchant, was also a foreign correspondent. He had an address in London, so was away from home quite often. Amy and Maximilian had no children. Amy’s mother, Lucy Ellen, remained living with Amy and Maximilian after her husband, Isaac, died in 1889. Amy’s mother died in March 1917 and Amy herself died 4 November 1918 and they are both buried in Rectory Lane.
