Vonderene – Leighton Buzzard
James Edward Honour was the husband of My Second Great Grandmother Charlotte (Blunt). At the time of their marriage on the 7th June 1857 Charlotte was the mother of two daughters, the younger, Charlotte Avarintha was my Great Grandmother. She married Thomas Flowers in 1877 in St Peter’s Church in Berkhamsted, at the time Thomas was a groom working for Lord Brownlow at Ashridge House also at his Lordship’s winter home at Belton House, Lincolnshire. Charlotte and Thomas had five children all born in or around Berkhamsted. Annie and Lizzie in Berkhamsted, Herbert in Aldbury and the youngest two Rupert and Dorothy were actually born in Red Lodge, Ashridge House next to the stables. The family moved to Lincolnshire when his lordship gave up ownership of Ashridge and were given a grace and favour cottage in the village of Manthorpe near Grantham. By this time the older three children had moved on to lives of their own but the younger two remained with their parents until they married.. Dorothy Flowers was my Grandmother, Thomas, Charlotte Avarintha and Dorothy are all buried in the churchyard of St Peter and St Paul next to Belton House along with Dorothy’s husband Percy Clarke and his parents Henry and Eliza. I was unaware of my connection to Berkhamsted until I moved there on my marriage in 1970, it was all quite a surprise. I would be pleased if Charlotte Honour could be included in the records for the plot in which her husband is buried. Many thanks
