Rectory Lane Cemetery, Berkhamsted

We made an exciting archaeological find from last weekend’s cemetery work party. During the removal of a boundary tree in the cemetery, we uncovered clear evidence of a set of steps down at end of Yew Tree Walk.

Now blocked off by a wall, these steps once gave access from Three Close Lane and nearby Highfield House, and would have allowed access across the cemetery to another gate (also now blocked off) on the other side to the old Rectory.
