Garden of Remembrance
Ensuring that the Cemetery has a sustainable future is a key mission of the Rectory Lane Cemetery Project. A new Garden of Remembrance has been created.
The Garden consists of a secluded cruciform paved area surrounded by trees and shrubs. Within this peaceful spot are specially designed benches on which to sit and contemplate, or remember those who have died. The Garden also affords people the opportunity to have the ashes of loved ones interred – please contact us for more information.
A new War Memorial has been created in the Garden. The Project has undertaken research into all those buried in the Cemetery who died as a result of injuries fighting in the First and Second World Wars and 50 people are commemorated on the central timber totem, inscribed ‘Lest We Forget’. This totem is flanked by smaller totems bearing the messages ‘Rest in Peace’ and ‘Live in Peace’.
