Rectory Lane Cemetery, Berkhamsted

Rectory Lane Cemetery, Berkhamsted

Garden of Remembrance

Ensuring that the Cemetery has a sustainable future, even though ongoing full burials have largely ended, is a key mission of the Rectory Lane Cemetery Project.

One of the initiatives to help is the creation of a Garden of Remembrance within the Cemetery.

The Garden consists of a secluded cruciform paved area surrounded by trees and shrubs. Within this peaceful spot are specially designed benches on which to sit and contemplate, or remember those who have died.  The Garden also affords people the opportunity to have the ashes of loved ones interred – please contact us for more information.

A new War Memorial has been created in the Garden. The Project has undertaken research into all those buried in the Cemetery who died as a result of injuries fighting in the First and Second World Wars and 50 people will be commemorated on the central timber totem, inscribed ‘Lest We Forget’.  This totem will be flanked by smaller totems bearing the messages ‘Rest in Peace’ and ‘Live in Peace’.
