Ernest was born 21 April 1908 in Berkhamsted to Thomas and Lizzie (née Hodby) King. By April 1911 the family was living at Gas Works Cottage, Billet Lane, Gossoms End. Thomas was foreman of the gasworks.
In 1935 Ernest married Alice T Gates and the 1939 Register records the couple at 100, Bridgewater Road. Ernest was a lorry driver.
He died in early 1944.
His parents are buried in plot 723.
