A fascinating series of booklets is available which explore the history of Rectory Lane Cemetery and some of those buried here.
The books cover the hidden symbolism of memorials and gravestones, the lives of some of the more interesting personalities buried here; the moving stories behind the war graves which date from World War I; and Remarkable Women in the Cemetery – appropriate for the centenary of the Suffrage Act 1918.
You can buy copies of these booklets for a suggested minimum donation of £1 to take with you to explore the cemetery. They are also available at our market stall on Berkhamsted High Street, or at any of our heritage events.
If you can’t get hold of a printed copy, you can download the booklets here. The latest in the series, the Family Geology Trail, is available in downloadable copy only.
