Directions
The Cemetery is located right behind the Rex Cinema & the Gatsy bar.
- From the centre of the town, go along the High Street towards the Rex
- Pass St Peter's Church on your left
- Before you reach the Rex, turn right up Rectory Lane (a narrow lane between buildings)
- The cemetery gates are straight ahead
By Train
Rectory Lane is about half a mile from Berkhamsted Railway Station, on the London Euston-Tring line.
- Exit the station on the ticket office side
- Go left along Lower Kings Road, following the canal
- Turn right, cross the bridge over the canal and go straight up Castle Street
- At the end of the street, cross over the High Street and turn left
- Turn right up Rectory Lane (a narrow lane between buildings)
- The cemetery gates are straight ahead
Castle Street is a gentle uphill route. To avoid the hill, you can turn right out of the station instead and then go via the High Street - this is a more gradual incline but a slightly longer route.

Cycling
Rectory Lane Cemetery is very close to the long-distance Chilterns Cycleway, which runs through Berkhamsted along the canal. If you are cycle touring, the cemetery is a lovely secluded place to stop and rest.

Rectory Lane Cemetery is only 2 minutes’ walk from the Grand Union Canal (Grand Junction branch). Whether you are passing through on a canal trip or mooring for a while, come and discover our historic cemetery. The nearest moorings are between locks 52 and 54 (near Waitrose or Raven’s Lane).

There is very limited parking on nearby streets. Please be mindful of neighbours and local access when you park.
Disabled Parking
Blue badge holders can park free of charge and without time limit in all council-run car parks and they all have disabled parking spaces with extra room.

General use bays: the closest parking spaces to the cemetery are 9 on-street parking spaces on Berkhamsted High Street, immediately adjacent to Rectory Lane.

Terrain
Rectory Lane is a moderate uphill up to the cemetery, 80m (260 ft) long, with a tarmac surface. Some visitors may require assistance for this bit.
Please note: Three Close Lane on the east side of the cemetery has several parking spaces, but it is quite a steep hill and is not recommended for visitors with wheelchairs.
