James was born 7 April 1824 to William and Elizabeth Rose and was baptised 26 June in Berkhamsted Independent chapel.
By 1841 he was living in Gossoms End and working as an agricultural labourer and in 1851 he was a farm labourer employed by Mrs Elizabeth Loxley and her son at Norcott Court.
James married Ellen Daniels in Berkhamsted in 1858 and in 1861 was an agricultural labourer. William was born early that year followed by James (1863) and Harry (1867).
By 1871 James had become a bricklayer and the family were living in Eddy Street, Northchurch. All three sons were at home and employed as labourers.
James died 26 April 1897 in Kitsbury Road aged 71.
Harry is also buried in this cemetery.
