Plot 479 Ida Wood (1869-1940)

Ida was born 16 February 1869 in Berkhamsted to James and Ann Wood. (They are buried in plot 678).

Her father was an iron worker who ran a significant local business.

Ida never married and became a milliner. In 1881 she was living with her family at 264, High Street, Berkhamsted.

In April 1911 she was visiting the Tyhurst family in Brighton.

By 1921 she was living with her younger sister Katherine at 14, Charles Street. She is described in the census as “Housekeeper, unemployed”. Katherine is described as Head of Household and was employed as a clerk by G. Knowles, millers at Castle Mill in Lower King’s Road.

In the 1939 Register she is described as “Incapacitated”. She was living with her brother John and his wife Edith A Wood at “Gwalia”, Park View Road.

Ida died 12 January 1940 aged 71 at Hempstead House, Hemel Hempstead.

Her sister Katherine (died 1951) is buried here with her.

Their brother John is buried with his wife in plot 1107.
