Sarah Mardle
1856 –1887

Unmarked grave Sarah Jane Mardle (1856-1887)

Sarah Jane was born in Berkhamsted in 1856 to Daniel and Jane (née Turner). Her father was the butler at Haresfoot House.

At the time of the 1871 census she was visiting great uncle Thomas Mardle, a baker in Stepney.

Sarah became lady’s maid to Mrs Duckworth, a physician’s wife, and in 1881 was living in their household at 11, Grafton Street, London. The Duckworths had seven children and step-children and employed nine live-in staff.

However, Sarah must have become ill and returned home to her parents. She died January 1887 at Haresfoot Park aged 30.

Her father is buried in this cemetery as well as two of her brothers - Arthur in Plot 935 and Thomas
