Agnes Blamire
Unmarked grave Agnes Blamire (1855-1923)
Agnes was born in 1851 in Horse Market, Kirby Lonsdale, Westmorland, to Edward and Agnes Blamire. Her father was a grocer who had been a carter, and she was to have four older, and two younger, brothers, and an older sister.
By 1861 the family was still living in Horse Market and her father had reverted to being a carter.
By 1871 Agnes had entered domestic service and was housemaid to the Vicar of Thornton in Lonsdale, Lancashire. The Revd. Leach and his wife had a large family looked after by Agnes and a cook.
Agnes cannot be traced in the records after 30 March 1871 until she died in Berkhamsted Union Infirmary 20 April 1923 aged 68, although her address was 17, Norfolk Terrace, Aylesbury. (She was not living there in June 1921.)
Despite leaving £530 10s 6d (about £28,000 in 2025) she was buried in a parish grave with another, unrelated, Union Infirmary inmate James Smith.
Probate was granted to Edward Blamire the elder, retired coachman, her brother.
