Unmarked grave Alice Brook (née Diment) (1862-1941)
Alice was born 8 October 1862 in Crewkerne, Somerset, the oldest child of John Barnes Diment, a publican and his wife Kitty (née Saunders). She had three brothers.
The family lived in Hermitage Street, Crewkerne. In April 1881 Alice was living at home and working as a draper’s apprentice. Ten years later she was a draper’s assistant and milliner living-in with her employer’s family. Mr W Chisell was a draper and outfitter at Waterloo House, High Street, Hungerford
On Christmas Day 1895, aged 33, she married William Thomas Brooks, aged 25, who was in the grocery trade and had grown up in Ringmer, Sussex. They married in Hungerford and their two children were born there: Hedley John Dunt (b. 1897) and Alice Hilda b. 1897)
Daughter Alice Hilda born 31 August 1897.
By 1901 they were living at 47, Ferulea Road, Harwich and William was employed as a grocer’s manager. They moved to Berkhamsted by 1911, to 10, Shrublands Avenue. William was still managing a grocery shop,
In the 1939 Register they were living at 72, King’s Road.
Alice died 15 January 1941 aged 79.
