Amy Blincow (née Ashmore)

Amy was born 31st March 1885 in Bicester, the daughter of Charles and Priscilla Ashmore (née Ashmore), both originally of St Ives, Cambridgeshire. Charles was an ironmonger’s assistant. In the 1891 census the family were living at Finchley Terrace, Bicester with daughters Edith and Amy and son John, but by 1901 they had moved to Sheep Street, an excellent central location, and Charles was running his own ironmonger’s shop next to the White Hart pub.

At the time of the 1911 census Charles and Priscilla were visiting his mother in St Ives leaving Amy, a dressmaker, and Robin, an assistant in the ironmongery shop, at home at 6-8, Sheep Street, a substantial 8-roomed dwelling.

Amy married Archibald Brown Blincow, a railway clerk working in Berkhamsted, in Bicester in 1913. By 1921 the couple were living at 11, Greenway, Berkhamsted where their daughter Mollie was born in 1923 and son Frank in 1926.

By 1929 the family had moved to “Devoran”, Harrowdene Road, Wembley.

At the time of the 1939 Register Archibald was at 29, Lauderdale Road, Abbots Langley in the household of William Barnath, another railway clerk. Amy was at High Street, Somersham, St Ives in the household of Henry J Morgan, a dentist and ophthalmologist. It is likely that Henry was a relative, as her parents were from St Ives.

Archibald died 25th February 1941 aged fifty five and was laid to rest here in the same cemetery as his parents.

Amy died 1st December 1961 at 311, Preston Road, Harrow aged seventy six and was brought to join him here..
