Plot 1046 Bertram James Meek (1884-1963)

Bertram was born 27 November 1884 in Berkhamsted, the third child and oldest son of Henry and Elizabeth (née Olney) Meek. His father was a wood turner and the family lived at 59, George Street, Northchurch.

By the time he was 16 Bertram was working as a wood turner like his father and living at home.

He married Ethel Beatrice Pocock in 1915 in Berkhamsted and their son Charles Edward was born in 1920.

In June 1921 Bertram was a railway bus conductor at Tring station employed by the L&NW Railway Co., presumably transporting passengers into Tring from the station which is actually in the parish of Aldbury.

In the 1939 Register the family were living at 39, Wingrave Road, Tring. Bertram was still employed by the L&NW but now as a porter, shunter and van driver.

Ethel died in October 1948 and is buried here.

Bertram survived her until 23 June 1963 when he died aged 79.
