Plot 179 Charles King Clarke (1800-1873)
Charles was born 29 May 1800 in Berkhamsted and baptised 30 June at St Peter’s. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Ann (née King) Clark.
He married Mary Hatchett in Berkhamsted in December 1821 and they were to have eight children: William (c.1826), Thomas (1830), Ellen (1831), Joseph (1836), Henry (1837), John (1841), David (c.1842) and Kate Emily (1845).
Charles lived in the High Street all his life and was a master baker. His sons Henry and David were to follow him into the trade.
Charles died 27 July 1873 aged 73. Mary survived him until 1883 and is buried here with him and their daughter Ellen who died in 1851.
Their sons David (died 1921) and Charles (died 1899) lie in Plot 590.
