Unmarked grave Emma Elizabeth Rose (née Pearce) (1865-1941)

Emma was born in 1865 in Berkhamsted to John and Mary (née Tompkins) Pearce. Her father was a shovel maker, her mother a grocer. Mary and John had come from Chesham and in 1871 they were living in Gravel Path with their four daughters and three sons, all but one of whom had been born in Berkhamsted..

Emma married Harry Rose, a wallpaper “stainer” (printer), in early 1892 in Hackney.

They were to have no children.

In 1901 the couple lived in two rooms at 13, Caversham Street, Chelsea. Three other families lived there, occupying two rooms each.

In 1911 Harry was still employed as a wallpaper stainer and they lived at 70, Gossoms End where Harry died November 1912 aged 46.

Emma became a domestic servant but in June 1921 she was out of work.

She died at Hempstead House, Hemel Hempstead in April 1941 aged 76.
