Ernest George Gill

Ernest was born in 1886 in Castle Street, Berkhamsted, the son of Thomas Gill, a pawnbroker and Eliza (née Howting). In 1911 he was living with his widowed mother in Doctor’s Commons Road.
Ernest married Kate Cotching in Berkhamsted in 1914 and they were to have three children: Edward T (1917), Donald Arthur (1918), Marjorie Ethel (1920).
The 1921 census recorded the family living at “Colenso Cottage”, Doctors Commons Road. Ernest was a railway clerk with the London and North Western Railway company.
The family moved to “Braunston”, Doctors Commons Road, next door to his mother, where Ernest died in May 1938, aged 52.
His parents are buried in plot 961.
