Plot 569 Ethel Chapman (née May) (1887-1920)

Ethel was born in 1887 in London. Her father John May, a sawyer and joiner had been born in Devon and he had clearly moved about over the years as his children had been born in Ilfracombe, Abertillery and London.

In 1891 she was living with her widowed father, her three older sisters and older brother at 3, Grenville Terrace, Bideford.

Ethel married Arthur J Chapman (the son of William and Eliza Chapman who are buried in plot 1072) 24 April 1916, St Catherine’s church, Neasden. He was a private in the Herts Yeomanry.

Arthur returned safely from the war and worked in Berkhamsted as a gardener for Lanes the nurserymen but Ethel died 17 Feb 1920 West Herts Hospital aged 33.
