Fanny Caroline, often recorded as Fanny although on her memorial as Caroline, was born in January 1883 to Caroline A Gomm and James R Gomm. She was baptised on 29th November 1883.
By the time of the 1901 census, when she was 18, she was employed as a Dressmaker, her father was a House Decorator. On 19th April 1905 she married Edward Biggerstaff in Berkhamsted and they went on to have six children together:
- Edward James – 1905 – 1940
- Richard Mark -1909 – 2003
- Minnie V – born 1912
- Gwendoline L – born 1914
- Ronald F D -1916 – 1989
- Audrey Margaritte -1925 – 1944
By the time of the 1911 census, they had set up home at No 9 Provident Place, Berkhamsted and had their first child, a boy Edward James.
By 1939 her husband was working as an Estate Carpenter, and they were living in Berkhamsted with their daughter Audrey Marguerite. Their son Edward James was away in the Royal Navy – and in fact he was lost at sea on 27th June 1940, sunk with his submarine.
Their daughter Audrey Marguerite died only four years later, at the young age of 18.
Fanny was widowed in 1958 and died herself on 3rd January 1962, aged 79.
