Florence was born in 1877 in Northchurch to Hosea Abel Ward, fishmonger, and his wife Phoebe. She had a sister born in 1880. In 1881 the family lived in Castle Street.

They were still there in 1891 and a twin brother and sister for Florence had been born.

Florence married William James Thompson 16 July 1901 in Berkhamsted. William was a “postal telegraph lineman” living in Station Road.

Their son Arthur was born in 1904 in Berkhamsted but by 1911 they had moved to 76, Highfield Road, Coventry. Arthur was a clerk in the costs department of Singer & Co.

By the time of Florence’s death 17 February 1919 aged 42 they had returned to Berkhamsted and were living at 31, Castle Street.
