Biography:
George McIntyre
1906 –12/11/1977

George McIntyre 1906 – 1977.

George had two brothers and one sister.    After his birth, the next time he appeared in official records was 1939.  He was a general labourer, living at 16 Kings Road.  The household was run by his widowed mother Mary Ann.  His sister and brother also lived there, along with 4 lodgers, all described as general labourers.

He married Winifred Victoria Clements on 17 December 1950 in Buckinghamshire.  In 1970, they lived at 63 Barlow Hall Road, Berkhamsted.  Subsequently, they lived at 1 Elm Grove, Berkhamsted.  A Clements family photo shows him as a very small man, a head shorter than his wife.  The couple look radiantly happy.

George died on 12th November 1977 and is buried in the same grave as his mother Mary Ann, who was born in 1874.  Unfortunately no date of death could be found for her.    Probate was on 10 May 1978.  He left £15,595.

George’s wife Winifred lived from 1898 to 1972.  She was one of a large family of 2 sisters and 5 brothers.  It appears that her family may have been in the workhouse in Colchester at one point.  She outlived her entire family.

Winifred worked in various hospitals before becoming the nurse in a GP surgery in Berkhamsted.  In 1939, she was a nursing welfare supervisor and lived at 4a Kings Road, very near George.  It is possible that his family were patients of hers as well as near neighbours.  There is no record of her being buried in Rectory Lane cemetery; she left £1951 in her will.
