George Winfield
1863 –1930

Unmarked plot George Winfield (1863-1930)

George was born in 1863 in Berkhamsted, the son of William and Lucy Winfield.

In 1817 he was living with his parents and four siblings in the very insalubrious Red Lion Yard, off the High Street. His father was a labourer.

George became a general labourer.

He married Elizabeth Noah 25 December 1886 in Berkhamsted. She had a son Alfred born in 1883. Subsequent censuses record him as Alfred Winfield, but it is not known whether George was the father.

Ethel was born in 1890 followed by William (1891), Emily (1894), Edith Blanche (1896) and Stanley (1901).

In 1901 the family lived at 21, Victoria Road, Berkhamsted where George lived for the rest of his life.

Elsie Elizabeth was born in 1903 and Horace Charles in 1908.

In 1921 George was a carman – a delivery driver.

Horace Charles, aged just 14, died in 1922. He is buried in this cemetery.

George died aged 67 in June 1930.

Buried with him is his son Stanley.
