Harry was born 15 October 1872 in Weybridge, Surrey, the only child of Ebenezer Hull and Emma (née Halsey). His father was a draper, but he died in 1875 when Harold was only two.
Emma continued to run the business as a draper and stationer and she and Harold were living “over the shop” in Queens Road Weybridge with Emma’s seventeen year old draper’s assistant and a live-in domestic servant. Ten years later Harold was a student, but their address and household remained the same.
In 1901 Emma and Harold were still in Queens Road at the drapery shop. Harold was employed as a clerk and, as well as the shop assistant and servant, Emma’s unmarried sister was living with them.
Harry married Olive Maude Haynes on 18 June 1903 in Christ Church, Forest Hill. They were to have two children: Lewis William Halsey (1910 Pyrford, Surrey) and Edith Joan (1911 Claygate, Surrey).
In 1911 the family were living at Milford, Hare Lane, Claygate, Surrey and Harry was a “2nd class clerk” in the GPO stores. They employed a live-in general servant.
By 1921 they had moved to 13, Bernard Garden, Wimbledon and Harry was clerk in the Post Office stores department, Kingston depot.
Harry retired and the 1939 Register recorded them at 47, Holywell Road, Studham, Beds.
At some point they moved to Berkhamsted.
Harry died in West Herts Hospital 7 May 1940 and left just over £2,000 (about £95,000 in today’s money).
Olive survived him until 1964 and is buried here with him.
