Plot 913  Horace Lay (1907-1922)

Horace was born in 1907, the last child of the marriage of James Lay, a builder’s labourer and Clara (née Gudgin), both of Berkhamsted families.

In 1911 little Horace was living at 25, Gossoms End with his parents and siblings Arthur, Alfred, Amy and Alice.

After the death of his father in 1919 Horace remained at home with his mother Clara at 25, Gossoms End, and at the time of the 1921 census, aged fourteen, was employed as a wood worker by East & Company, whose large steam saw mills were located close by.

Horace died the 22nd September 1922, aged only fifteen, and was laid to rest with his father. His mother Clara, who died in 1952, lies in plot 950 and his brother Arthur, in plot 1036.
