James Meager

James MEAGER, died 23rd August 1930, aged 52 Rosina MEAGER (nee WILLMORE), his wife, died 22nd May 1939, aged 65 James Meager was born in late 1878 and was baptised in February 1881 in Northchurch. His mother was Mary Ann and his father Francis Meager. Francis was a general labourer, James was their third son and the family lived in the High Street although by the time he was 13 they had moved to George Street. In 1899 James married Rosina Walling, a girl from Tavistock in Devon. By then he was employed as a house painter. The couple lived at 14, Station Road in Berkhamsted and the year after their marriage, their only child Stanley Reginald was born. The family stayed at Station Road for 27 years before moving to a newer property away from the town centre in Greenway. Stanley remained living with his parents until his marriage. He worked for the local authority and became their Chief Cashier by the time he was 40. Only four years after the couple had moved house together, when James was only 52, he died on 23rd August 1930. He is buried with Rosina in plot 641.
