Biography:
James Smith
1870 –1923

 Unmarked grave James Smith (1870-1923)

Nothing is known about James other than that he was born  in 1870 and died in April 1923 in “The Poor Law Institution Casual Ward”, aged 53. Tramps were referred to as “casuals” and the fact James died in the Casual Ward suggests he was himself a tramp.

As was common with those who died in the workhouse he was buried with another, unrelated, Union Infirmary inmate.
