John Costin
Unmarked grave John Costin (1791-1864)
John was born in Ivinghoe 21 February 1791 and baptised there 13 March. His parents were William and Frances (née Janes) Costin.
On 21 September 1814 John married Martha Foster in Berkhamsted.
John was a carpenter and he and Martha had a large family - seven sons and three daughters were living at home in the High Street at the time of the 1841 census.
In 1851 the Costins were living in Back Lane and one son was working as a carpenter, perhaps with his father. Four of the unmarried sons were living at home along with one grandson.
All the children had left home by 1861 when John and Martha were living alone in Ravens Lane. Although now 70, John still appeared to be working.
He died on 20 April 1864 aged 73 and was buried here on the 26th.
Martha died in October 1866. She is most likely buried in this cemetery, although her grave has not been recorded.
