Joseph Cook
1853 –1909

Unmarked grave Joseph Cook (1853-1909)

Joseph was born in Berkhamsted in July 1853, the son of Joseph and Ann (née Glenister) Cook and was baptised at St Peter’s in August. His father was an agricultural labourer and Joseph was their third son. The family lived at White Hill. He was to have two more brothers and three sisters.

By the time Joseph was fifteen the family had moved to Canal Side, near the Crystal Palace and he was working as a labourer. Joseph never married and in 1881 was still living with his family at Canal Side.

His history between that census and the one in March 1901 cannot be traced. By then, aged 47, he was an inmate of the Union Workhouse where he died in October 1909

aged 56. He was buried 20 October.
