Joseph Noah
1846 –1929

Unmarked grave Joseph Noah (1846-1929)

Joseph was born in 1846 in Chesham to Joseph and Elizabeth (née Scott) Noah. His father was an agricultural labourer and by the age of fourteen, so was young Joseph.

He married Elizabeth Holiday in Berkhamsted in 1879. They do not appear to have had any children.

In 1881 they were lodgers in Victoria Street and Elizabeth was working as a needlewoman.

By 1901 they were living at 7, The Wilderness and Joseph was a nursery labourer, probably for Lane’s Nurseries.

Elizabeth died at 7, The Wilderness in January 1909 aged 53 and is buried in this cemetery.

Joseph married again later that year to Eliza Harriet Perry.

In 1921 he was widowed again and boarding at 24, Mill Street. Aged 74, he was still working as a labourer.

Joseph died in Berkhamsted Union infirmary in April 1929 aged 82.

His brother William and sister-in-law Hannah are also buried in this cemetery.
