Plot 959 Marion Ryder Copley (née Richardson) (1885-1969)

Marion was born in 1885 in Berkhamsted, the daughter of Thomas Ryder and Mary Richardson and was baptised in St Peters, 10 January 1886.

She married Norman Basil Copley, a clerk, although the location of the wedding has not been established.

In 1921 she and Basil, who was out of work, were living with her widowed mother Mary Richardson at 2, Victoria Road. She was employed as a tailoress by J P Taylor and worked at 67, High Street, Watford. Also living with them was Dorothy Mary Ruffett aged 5, the daughter of Marion’s sister Jane.

It has not been possible to locate Basil and Marion in the 1939 Register. Basil died in Swindon in 1962. It is possible that the couple separated as Marion’s probate record reads “Marion Ryder Copley otherwise Marion Ryder”. She died aged 83 on 23 December 1968 at Adeyfield Old People’s Home, Hemel Hempstead and is buried here with her parents.
