Plot 857 Violet Margaret Wheelton (1894-1948)

Violet was born 20 July 1894 in Little Gaddesden, the daughter of Charles Edward Groom, a shepherd, and his wife Emily Maria (née Collier).  She had two older brothers and a sister

The 1891 census records Charles and Emily living at number 12, Little Gaddesden.

By 1901 Charles was employed as a horseman at Hudnall Farm in Little Gaddesden.

In 1911 only Violet was living at home at number 2, Hudnall, and Charles was an agricultural labourer.

Violet married Ernest Wheelton, a wood machinist, in 1925 in Berkhamsted.

Her mother Emily died in 1928 and by 1939 her father was living at 108, Gossoms End with Violet and Ernest. 

Charles died 30 January 1940 aged 78 at the Wheelton’s home and is buried here.

Violet died 15 February 1948 and is buried here with her father.
